For Droges' camp, Fight Force 5 was all difficulties and disapointment in his debut.
Exited for a full packed card however, Devin was left in a locker room with no live feed of the undercard unaware that it was already taking place.(he was able to get corrected after missing first 2 fights)
Then delays and no audio plagued the main card for Droges's camp partly due to communication issues on his end. Then with what appeared to be a no show, late arrival, Eduardo Filho, it was possiblely enough to throw Payne off his game.
Droges: "Ya Devin's debut was pretty tough to swallow, we missed everything due to communication issues of the undercard and problems on our end for the other main cards.. last minute show up of Eduardo Filho, it was frustrating."
Payne came so close to finishing off Filho in the 1st round but his debut in the big times, pressure and inexperience got the best of him.
A stand-up war that had him ahead and in round1 and at any time possibley finishing it however it was not to be. Filho survived and then began to start laying the beat down on him until the inevitable, Payne getting dropped for good in round2. Before that high kick that stopped Payne, the war was back and forth and at one point both completely gassed going punch for punch however Filho continued to work his clinch and got his range and started rocking Payne until he could no longer take anymore.
Droges camp is pretty somber and to be taken serious, they really needed this win stated Droges himself
"This is a huge set back in contender status when our camp can't get any wins... Payne is walking around with a bad limp and all busted up we are not sure if he will be back in health for FF6. He is pretty quiet about how the fight unfolded.. he knew he messed up but we tell him he did good but that doesn't change the fact that he lost...
we don't know what we are going to do.. "
For the rest of the Fights on Fight Force 5, Part time journalist Droges will need to review the tape when uploaded so he can report on what appeared to be an exciting night of fights before releasing all the details on what unfolded. He apologizes for the inconvenence this will cause for the fans of OMMA.
