K!LLA B33

As the fans piled into the West First Arena I'm not sure how many of them thought they would be witnessing the biggest shocker in OMMA history as the #1 p4p fighter Jon Jones would be submitted early minutes of the fight. The magnitude of this upset was reminiscent of the Fedor vs Werdum fight and left the fans stunned. Realisically speaking, nothing lasts forever so I'm sure many had the feeling that it was bound to happen sooner or later and Cathcart was just the guy who can do it but as dominant as Jones has been it was hard to believe it would happen that night. here is a breakdown of the fight as well as the other great fights that took place on that card.

Otto McAfee vs Kill Murder
3-1 Otto McAfee looked to keep his win streak gong as he took on submission machine Kill Murder who is 2-1. Even though it was a 20 minute round and McAfee was a Jui Jitsu fighter Kill Murder wasted no time getting the fight to the mat. After a few minutes of ground and pound from side control Murder quickly transitioned to mount where he unleashed a barage of deadly elbows. McAfee showed good composure and defended well. Murder in what seemed like a mercy move gave up his dominant position. Shortly after he dove in with a punch but missed. Mcafee eventually fought his way back the his feet and after a few good exchanges took Murder down. Murder eventually swept McAfee, gained mount and slapped on a triangle forcing McAfee to tap. It was a good showing by Murder and now has his eye on the title shot.

Connor Cathcart vs Lucky Luciano
2-1 Connor Cathcart was looking to rebound from his loss to the current champion Glen Holt with a win over newcomer Austin White. Unfortunately White had to pull out due to personal reasons and Luciano was the 1st to respond to the call. This was the 3rd meeting between two and like the other two fights it was another crowd pleaser. Constant back and forth action kept the fans on their feet the entire fight. Cathcart drops Luciano a little over 2 minutes in with a vicious right. Luciano survives and Cathcart delivers some good ground and pound. Cathcart stands up but shortly after takes Luciano back down. A few minutes went by and the ref decided to stand them up. Cathcart then earns another takedown and continued his ground work but Luciano was able to get back to his feet, clinch Catchart and deliver some brutal elbows. Cathcart escapes and eventually knocked Luciano down again where he delivered some more ground and pound. Not long after Cathcart locked on a kimura forcing Luciano to tap. The fans were rewarded with another great battle so the promotion returned the favor to the fighters giving them another FOTN bonus.

Takeo Ford vs Andrada Luiz
4-1 Takeo Ford came into this fight knowing with another win he would get his rematch with the champion Glen Holt. 2-1 Luiz, a very game opponent had every intention to spoil those plans. Soon as the bell rang to start the fight Andrada wasted no time in taking the fight to his world. Ford defended well which made the fight a very back and forth ground battle. Ford attempt many armbars but the savy Jiu Jitsu practitior wasnt havent it and eventually slapped on am armbar of his own. Ford escaped bought Luiz wasnt finished as he transitin into an omaplata. Ford escaped and the ground battle continued. Shortly after Ford was able to make it back to his feet where after multiple commands from his corner to keep it standing it stayed for awhile. After a few minutes of standup action Ford was able to obtain the clinch and slam Luiz to the mat. He then gain mount and finished the fight seconds later via knockout. It was a good win for Ford as the knockout earned him KOTN, put him on a 2 fight win streak and earned hima a rematch with the current champion.

Jon Jones vs Stuart Cathcart
As the fighters made their way to the cage the intensity was too high to measure as the crowd had the place rocking with cheers but little did they know their smiles would be turned into frowns and looks of shock just minutes into the round. Jones, the most dominant fighter the UC has ever seen had tons of pressure on his shoulders coming into this fight as he had alot on the line. His undefeated record (14-0), #1 pound for pound status and of course his championship belt. 5-1 Cathcart seemed to enjoy the underdog position as he looked very calm. The pressure showed in Jones as he looked very tentative in the beginning minutes. After a few feeler strikes from both fighters Cathcart sent a shockwave throught the crowd as he rocked Jones with a hard cross. Jones's wrestling instincts kicked in and he quickly took Cathcart down. Seemingly still hurt Jones was swept and eventually mounted. The crowd was going crazy as most then realize this could be the fall of Jones. After some ground and pound Cathcart slapped on a triangle and forced the champion to tap out. It was the best performance Cathcart has had in the UC and what a perfect time to have it.
