UC 59: "Thompson vs Punga"
Main Card
LHW Bout (C) Michael Thompson (4-0) vs #2 Logan Punga (2-0)
Undefeated Logan Punga tries to dethrone the reigning light heavyweight champion Michael Thompson in a matchup the judges will most certainly not be needed. Punga enters the contest with two knockouts while the champion enters this bout riding four impressive submisison. With Thompson's shocking 5th round submission back at UC 55 under his belt, experience will definitely be in the champions corner but being anything can happen in MMA, Punga could pulloff the upset and shock the world.
HW Bout (C) Brock Lesnar (7-2) vs #3 Bumpy Johnson (4-2)
Next on this stacked card is yet another title fight. The big men are out for this one as a staggering 500+ lbs will enter the cage. This fight is a rematch from UC 51 where the reigning champion Brock Lesnar walked away with a 2nd round KO. Johnson earns this title shot after recording two quick knockouts and has the power to get his revenge on the champion. Lesnar has been knocked out before so he is not unbeatable but given that this will be his 6th title fight in the heavyweight division, Johnson will certainly have his hands full.
FW Bout #2 Floyd Mayweather (3-2) vs #3 Herb Green (2-0)
The first title fight of the night is a battle for the strap held by soon to be former champion Jackson Hardhatz who is being stripped due to inactivity. Herb Green sports an undefeated record with neither opponent making it to the judges scorecard. Mayweather on the other hand has hit a career resurgence of late and while he began his career on the receiving end of a couple knockouts he is riding high on a three fight win streak with one of those coming over perenial bantamweight contender #1 Kane Parker who is the only man to ever defeat their reigning champion IP Man. Green has the power to KO anyone and with Mayweather's chin still in question Floyd could either silence his critics or end up face down on the canvas.
BW Bout #2 Cort Walker (2-2) vs #4 Bob Lee Swagger (1-0)
In the feature bout of the main card #2 ranked Cort Walker takes on undefeated UC newcomer Bob Lee Swagger who brings a breath of fresh air into the division. Swagger called his shot before his bout with Ima King telling the media and UC president he would start his career with a first round knockout. After ending his debut with beautiful overhand right just 55 seconds into the first round, Swagger could be on the fast track to a title shot against reigning champion IP Man with a victory here. Do not be fooled by Walker's record as he carries a split decision loss to the aforementioned current champion IP Man, where he dropped the champion a staggering four times in a three round bout. Many argued Walker was robbed and it's hard not to agree with the man after watching the fight. This is a dream match to lead into two title fights where the stakes could not be higher. Will Walker earn his title shot and a chance at revenge or will Swagger continue his climb up the ladder and earn his own title shot.
WW Bout #3 Douglas Craft (6-5) vs #5 Jet Lee (3-2)
In the second fight of the main card #3 ranked Craft takes on top 5 contender Jet Lee. Douglas Craft has been a staple in the UC Welterweight division and enters the cage with the experience of over 10 fights in the promotion. Craft started his career with two quick submissions but lost his first and only title fight against former champion Andre Galvao. Douglas Craft has been more inconsistent as he would like but has stepped into the cage with guys like recently dethroned top 5 P4P fighter Tre Carter. Jet Lee enters the cage with two knockouts himself and this fight could not take place at a better time in their respective careers. Will Douglas Craft possibly earn his 2nd chance at gold or will Jet Lee upset the hardened veteran and capture that marque win that has alluded his career.
Preliminary Fight to Watch
FW Bout #5 Jose Aldo (3-3) vs #4 Truth Sasso (3-2)
In a fight many fans were shocked not to see on the main card top 5 contenders Jose Aldo and Truth Sasso will enter the octagon in a highly anticipated rematch of their co-main event bout back at UC 37 - Ascension. In a fight many consider to be a fluke victory Jose Aldo was flash rocked early and caught with a spectacular head kick before he could recover. This shows just how stacked this card is when a fight with stakes this high headline the preliminary card. Aldo turned his tough start around and enters the cage riding an incredible three fight win streak while Sasso enters riding a pair of losses. With momentum in Aldo's corner he will be prepared for this rematch with his sights set on revenge and eventually, the gold.
