Hey fans, players, and those once and awhile glancers of OMMA, I’m DJ Jones the new writer/reporter/interviewer/post fight apprentice of OMMA. As an experienced player off OMMA in UFC1, and just made my debut yesterday in UFC2 (lost by decision, DJ Jones flyweight), I’m very excited to give my consent and really dig deep into OMMA. So today we're going to get into the following....
• Top 10 Pound for Pound Fighters in OMMA
• Fighters on the Rise
• Fighters losing their mojo
• Fights to expect and the future
• Fights I want to see in the future
• A FAN POLL
So let’s get started (btw the information below goes in order of the bullets above
1. JJ WATT – Watt is the #1 pound for pound fighter in OMMA because pf his experience, I mean 11 title fights come on! His last fight was at UC81 where he defeated Ron Artest (the #3 LHW contender) by 5th round tko. Also coming off a UC84 2nd round knockout against Lennox Lewis, I can’t wait for him to get back in the ring, but based on his experience and the power of the division, he sits at #1
2. Damien Silva – Silva is coming off an impressive 2nd round knockout vs Major King (the #3 WW contender) at UC80. He also came off a win against kickboxing star Nieky Holsken by 2nd round submission at UC83 (#10 WW contender). What makes Silva dangerous is that he is a mixed martial artist meaning he can finish the fight wherever it goes, and dosnt really specialize in one specific thing. He is risky business, and the WW title should be his for a long while.
3. Tristan Bocchino- On a 10 fight win streak, and coming off a UC84 win against #4 lightweight contender Ares Ares by 1st round knockout, Bocchino is 10-0 and I hope makes an appearance soon. The smoot and heavy handed boxer, we have yet to see him be put to the test on the mat, but I’m sure that clinch and ground technique have been a huge part of his training, the future can only tell what happens next.
4. Gio Ito- Ito is someone I idolized sense I first starting playing OMMA, and I feel he doesn’t get as much respect as he deserves in the league. On a three fight win streak, and coming off a huge win against King Psycho, and sadly to say almost retiring him, Ito is looking at his peak right now. A mixed martial artist, Ito can finish the fight anywhere which makes him a highly more dangerous competitor.
5. Muhammed Ali- Bursting onto the scene at UC83, and taking down champion Eddy Gordo, Ali Is young, and still has a lot longer to go. After only 3 fights Ali takes the belt and becomes the new HW champion of OMMA. Questions still lie in his game, all of his fights came by knockout, and -we still have yet to see his ground game tested. As of now he is a 4-0 champion, and taking the belt that quickly leaves no doubt that he has more to come.
6. Eddy Gordo- Former Middleweight and Heavyweight campion, Eddy Gordo of the Capoeira fighting style looks to make a comeback and regain his belt. Yes, a tough HW loss to Ali, but he is still basically a legend in OMMA and should have another shot soon.
7. Jim Kelly- After a loss to OMMA LEGEND ANDERSON SILVA, Kelly made a comeback 4 fights later and wins by 2nd round knockout. He is the future of the division, and I believe will be on top soon.
8. Michael Thompson- Former LHW champion, his last appearance came at UC76, and might have been the fight that retired him, I’m not sure. But 10 cards later he could make a comeback, a comeback I think everyone is waiting to see.
9. Hank Li- Li has been around for a while, and with a 10-2 record he simply has more to come and deserves the ranking for now.
10. Jarl Psycho- YES IT’S A FLYWEIGHT PEOPLE. The newly developed flyweight division has a new fighter. Psycho beat my guy DJ Jones at UC85 by unanimous decision (obvious choice) and I think will be the next champion of this division. He closes the distance well, has a great all-around game, and will be a tough catch for anyone in his way.
A few fighters on the rise include
• Ricky Bmoney
• Tito Ortiz
• Andre Galvao
• Matty Ice
• Dan Martin
• Bob Lee Swagger
Now we will get into the fights I expect to see later in the year
1. Gordo vs Ali 2- This was a close fight the first time, but was it a fluke? This rematch will clarify that.
2. JJ Watt vs Michael Thompson- Yes Thompson just came off a loss, but he is the #1 contender and I think will give Watt the best fight stylistically.
3. Silva vs Bmoney- Bmoney is on the rise, let’s see if the young buck can handle the legend.
4. Silva vs Ford- Ford is on a 2 fight win streak, he deserves the next shot because of experience
5. Martin vs Carter- #1 contenders fight for the featherweight belt, whoever wins gets the shot.
6. Ito vs Swagger- Once again a young buck vs a legend, who will choke under the pressure?
7. Walker vs Psycho- This is the next flyweight title fight for sure, whoever wins gets the belt.
Now let’s get into the dream fights (only 3)
1. Bocchino vs Damien Silva (catch weight)- If we could get this fight, boy would it be a dagger!
2. Anderson Silva vs JJ Watt- I would take Watt in this one, so let’s get this booked lol!
3. IP Man vs Jose Aldo- If IP would meet him at featherweight, I think we could have a new champ.
So that’s all for today guys. My Xbox gamer tag is, Jonesz xx Bball. If you see any interview request or anything know it’s me and it’s for media and OMMA purposes, see you next time guys, bye!
