Hey everyone
Just about a week til EA UFC!!! Can't wait. I'm going to try and figure out how OMMA works but I'm glad to be here!! Hopefully all the good fighters haven't been taken yet???
Here's a bit of background on me.
I've played every EA Sports fighting game since the original knockout kings (and dozens of other EA titles) --- I didn't realize how good I was at these games until Fight Night Round 4 when I landed in the top 25 of the PS3 leaderboards...it was my first time playing online and I really thought something was broken b/c I was beating people so easily lol --- anyway, made it to Las Vegas for the FNR4 Gamestop tourny --- ended up losing (I always used Frazier everyone else = Ali) but had a great time so no worries there
I heard EA Sports was coming out w/ an MMA game in 2010 so got into that --- I actually ended up #1 on the PSN leaderboard board for awhile and won some cool prizes in a league I was part of. There were certainly problems w/ EA MMA --- especially the SPAMMERS --- but in my opinion it was a great first try for EA and MMA games.
A couple years back I tried to get into the last UFC game but just didn't like the gameplay --- just not as crisp as EA Sports in the striking, and I was never one for the 'shining' for submissions/etc. so I returned that game within a week --- I also played some Fight Night Champion and got to the top 50 but didn't really enjoy the gameplay that much, seemed a bit too easy in my opinion (I'm not a fan of autoblock for example)
Anyway I *love* my fighting games and was pretty scared to try out EA UFC Demo b/c
A) I didn't want it to suck, and B) if it didn't suck, I knew I was going to spend a lot of my life on the game ---- well so far, it's option B
My thoughts on the demo so far:
* I was worried that moving to the buttons for striking would be a major problem --- but so far, I like it a lot! I'm still always going to love Total Punch Control w/ the sticks but it seems the button punching is smooth and non-gimmicky/non-spammy ---- HOWEVER, I will hold further comment on that til I play people online, you'll be amazed w/ the types of glitches and stuff people come up with online lol
* Ground game seems to be on point. This was a big reason I liked EA MMA, it seemed intiuiative and skill-based to get around on the ground, as opposed to who can bash buttons or spin the stick the fastest.
* They do need to work on some of the takedown mechanics, especially when the opponent is throwing a spinning punch or kick/etc. One of my favorite moves is to lure someone into one of those spinning strikes, dodge it, and take them down. Unfortunately in the demo there has been times when I score a 'perfect' takedown like this but my character bounces off my opponent and we both end up standing. I do like all the different types of takedowns though (i.e. single leg vs. double leg vs. power w/ a suplex/etc.)
* The characters can take a bit too much damage in my opinion.....but it is just a game...plus it's Jon Jones vs Gustafsson (awesome matchup for a demo btw!) ---- still I have landed power blow after power blow and it's pretty hard to take guys out standing early in the first round. Though it's certainly not impossible.
* Stamina seems to be on point! This is *KEY* in these type of games --- good to see stamina loss for missed takedowns, missed strikes/etc.
* Being able to quickly edit/share videos and screenshots to facebook/etc. is pretty awesome But it still won't replace Live Broadcast Oh well ---
That's about it now I'm going to go read thru the forum to see what I missed from you all in the past week --- I've heard a few mixed reviews but generally it's been positive so that's good to hear I hope that EA UFC has a huge following!!!
