This thread is for the fighter that had the best performance/most exciting performance in each month starting with January of 2011 and continuing on until I get tired of doing this.

Starting with May, voting opens. (note: votes must come with a reason why you think they should be fighter of the month. After all 12 months, Fighter of the Year will be announced)

Next to the month will be the fighter's name, standing in their division, and a brief description on why they have become the fighter of the month. Voting for May ends May 31, 2011

January - Frankie Edgar, UFC LW Champion - after being absolutely destroyed in the first round by Gray Maynard, Frankie battled back from the brink of unconsciousness to take a win on one of the judges score cards, a draw on another, and even though he lost on the final judges score card he forced a split draw in an early (and I mean early! 1.1.11) Fight of the Year contender.

February - Anderson Silva, UFC MW Champion - All the hype behind this fight was on the side of Victor Belfort, praised for his lighting fast hands, agility, power, explosiveness, and awareness while Silva was being stamped as done after the Sonnen fight. After the usual 1-2 minute feeling out period, Anderson knocked out Victor in the first real exchange of the fight --- a brutal fake front kick to the chest tricked Belfort completely, because the kick's actual target found it's niche right on Belfort's head followed by two bomb punches. This extended his Consecutive Title Defenses record, Broke the tie for most UFC title defenses (consec or non consec), and extended his undefeated streak to 13-0 in the UFC with just 4 non-title fights (Leben, Lutter, Irvin, Griffin) The win also extended the longest win streak record and was the first knockout in the history of known MMA via front kick to the face.

March - Johnny Boneesss Jones, UFC LHW Champion. - He dominated the previously undefeated Bader via modified guillotine from mount to get a title shot, just 4 or 5 weeks later. Then he came in, and he beat Shogun. He beat Shogun so unbelievably dominantly. He beat Shogun standing... He beat him on the ground, and he beat him in his specialty Muay Thai. Shogun only landed 9 strikes the entire fight on the feet and 12 on the ground. Jones was well deserving of this month.

April - Mark Hominick, UFC FW contender - It was the fight of the night. UFC FW champion Jose Aldo, renowned for his striking, was out boxed by this man. Jose took him down and pounded and pounded and kicked and kicked, and he took Hominick down and down again. But Hominick got up each time, ready to exchange some more. Late in the 4th round, Jose landed a bomb that put a softball sized welt on his head, that Jose Aldo has stated he "Was afraid to hit because it might give him brain damage" Hominick teared up, but he defended himself and during the break doctors examined him and asked if he could continue. He could have quit. But he kept fighting. He took Jose down and threw bombs from the gaurd because Aldo was tired. He could have quit, losing on the score cards, and possibly very injured... but her he was, moments away from a TKO stoppage. He may not have passed guard, but he definitely showed up to fight, and he had all 55,000 people on their feet. Even Christopher Reeves, spotted in attendance was reported as being on his feet. The bell rang and there was no doubt (in my mind) that the score would turn out 48-46 in Aldo's favor, and Mark lost... but Hominick went home a warrior in another fight of the year contender. Congratulations on your daughter, Mark Smile

*48-46 appeared on one of the judges scorecards, as well as mine.*
